Cubs Fail Even at Celebrating



As part of the 100th Anniversary of Wrigley Field celebrations, the Cubs painted a variety of murals on the outer wall of the stadium along Waveland Avenue. One of the murals earning most of the attention depicts Charles Lindbergh at a Cubs game in 1927. Sure, Lindbergh is a captivating man. Everything he did for air travel is worthy of news. Rooftops vs. Renovations


Since the 1980’s landlords of former residential buildings positioned across the street from Wrigley Field created a business off of Cubs fans. But this industry now faces an uncertain future if Tom Ricketts gets his way.

A proposed $500-million renovation of the 100-year-old ballpark was approved by the Chicago City Council and is set to begin. However, a binding contract with rooftop owners, giving the team 17 percent of gross revenue, is in effect until 2024. And now with rooftop owners potentially threatening a lawsuit because the proposed signage would obstruct views, the process has come to a halt. Although legal action would only delay the process rather than stop it, said President of Business Operations Crane Kenney, the Cubs still want to maintain a good relationship with their neighbors. The Chicago Cubs are no stranger to the Major League Baseball spotlight, but not always for topics a team may want. With the last World Series title won in 1908, the last World Series appearance in 1945, the last playoff appearance in 2008, and even the removal of Wrigley’s favorite Old Style beer, Cubs fans have seen better days. OK, maybe not by many that are actually living… Still, we choose to bleed Cubbie blue, through and through.
